Preventative Care

Ensuring your cat, dog or exotic pet has regular wellness exams – also known as preventative care – is the key to a long, healthy life. Wellness exams give your veterinarian the opportunity to diagnose, treat or even prevent problems before they become life-threatening.

We can keep your pet on track with their vaccinations, parasite prevention (tick, flea and worming), or annual lab work, and discuss any behavioural or nutritional changes and concerns.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Our Preventative Care Services

Eaton Pet Vet offers affordable consultations to discuss and maintain your pet’s health and happiness.

A consultation with one of our vets is the ideal time to discuss any concerns from diet and exercise to pain management or dental care.

Above all, routine check-ups enable us to detect any early signs of disease or health conditions that may be developing in your pet.

Early diagnosis of certain conditions allows us to initiate a more successful treatment plan with an often-greater result.

Vaccinations are an essential part of your dog, cat, rabbit and ferret’s healthcare program. It is important that we keep our pets vaccinated against potentially fatal, but thankfully preventable diseases.

Generally, puppies and kittens require an initial series of three vaccines followed by an annual booster to ensure ongoing protection from disease.

All vaccination appointments at Eaton Pet Vet include a comprehensive physical examination before any vaccination is given.

All pets are susceptible to various internal and external parasites. Our friendly and expert veterinary staff and nurses are happy to provide advice about the best type of parasite control for your pet.

The most common worms that infect dogs and cats are Roundworm, Hookworm, Whipworm, and Tapeworm.

To control these worms, it is necessary to have a regular worming routine. Adult cats and dogs should be wormed every 3 months.

Puppies and kittens should be wormed with an appropriate product from 2 weeks of age, initially every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age, then every month until 6 months of age, then every 3 months for the rest of their lives.

Gastro-intestinal worms can cause serious malnutrition, weight loss despite increase appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and even death so it is important that you have a worming routine in place.

Fleas are common parasites that can not only cause discomfort and skin problems for pets, but also have the potential to transmit unwanted diseases. Early recognition and treatment of fleas is important as they reproduce at a phenomenal rate.

Fleas infest both dogs and cats and we offer a broad range of preventative care products which cater to all types of pets and lifestyles, with different administration options available for your convenience.

Congratulations on your new fur baby! We offer a range of services to keep your puppy or kitten healthy and can provide a wellness program to keep them on track including check-ups, vaccinations, worming, microchipping, desexing, parasite prevention, and behavioural and nutritional advice.

The first few months are a critical period for their development, and we can give you the support and tools necessary to help them grow into a happy, healthy pet.
